A Heritage Breed Known for Beauty, Mothering Ability, and Exceptional Wool
At Leatherwood Creek Farm, our Tunis sheep are selected for the qualities that have made this historic American breed a favorite for generations. They are calm, productive sheep with excellent maternal instincts, easy lambing, and beautiful, creamy wool that is prized by handspinners and fiber artists.
Raised on pasture in the rolling hills of southern Middle Tennessee, our flock is managed with an emphasis on sound structure, calm disposition, parasite resilience, and productive, long-lived ewes.
Our Breeding Program
We believe good sheep begin with good mothers.
Our breeding program focuses on producing functional sheep that thrive in a pasture-based system while maintaining the classic characteristics of the Tunis breed. We select for:
Correct conformation and structural soundness
Strong maternal instincts and milk production
Calm, easy-to-manage temperaments
Healthy, vigorous lambs
Dense, high-quality fleeces with soft, consistent fiber
Whether you're just starting with heritage breeds or looking for productive homestead sheep, we strive to raise animals that are both practical and enjoyable to own.
Wool Worth Working With
Tunis wool is one of the hidden treasures of the fiber world.
With its soft handle, beautiful natural cream color, and versatile medium-fine fiber, Tunis wool is equally suited for handspinning, knitting, weaving, and felting. We send our wool to a mill for processing into small-batch yarn, allowing us to experience firsthand the qualities we are breeding for in every fleece.
Our goal is to produce sheep that excel both in the pasture and in the fiber studio.
